Its better if we study reduction and oxidation in the sense of oxidation number but not through the gaining and loosing of electrons coz this concept shows some faults in the sense of daily language.Example by saying reduction in the sense of electrons,we will think electrons are being taken out from this species but its just c.

this reaction is based on 2 semi-reactions. The reduction and the oxidation. By reduction the reductor gives away electrons. By Oxidation the oxidater gets electrons. If you combine this two reactions you get the redox reaction.
an example: Fe (s) + Cu2+ → Fe2+ + Cu (s)
Cu2+ + 2 e- → Cu (s) Cu is the oxidator : oxidation
Fe (s) → Fe2+ + 2 e- Fe is the reductor : reduction
